How to Build Unstoppable Momentum That Leads To Success

By Wade McNutt
Natural National Bodybuilding Champion

The other day one of our members asked about Momentum of Success.  He said, “Wade, I hear you talk about momentum and its relation to success often Wade but what exactly do you mean?

This really got me thinking...

Momentum is summation of forces that are actively propelling you towards you goals or against your goals in the case of negative momentum.  Successful people build up a series of positive mental habits, which lead to positive action behaviors, which eventually lead to success.

The summation of the combined energy of these forces over time is called momentum.  Momentum can be a positive or negative force depending on what the desired result is and how whether or not the actions contributed to its achievement.

It’s important to remember that outcomes are relative to time, place, and the position of the observer, which means the positive or negative outcome is really determined by the individual's goals, their attitude, and belief systems.  In other words you determine what success means in your life.

Success is means different things for different people so first determine what success means for you and I can assure that you will be well on your way to achieving it.

The Physics of Success

Momentum classically defined actually refers to Newton’s first Law, which states, “a body in Motion tends to stay in Motion”.  In other words every force (action) placed on an object will propel an object until the summation of opposing forces stops the objects trajectory or path.

Although Newton was referring to the motion of planetary bodies, decoding the pull of gravity and discovering the foundation of Newtonian Physics, the application of this law is relevant to the everyday trainee as well as the seasoned lifter.  In fact it applies to everyone and everything everywhere.

So how does Momentum affect your Success in the gym and outside of the gym?

In order apply the principle of momentum we must first examine what it is, how it’s created, and how our thoughts, feelings and actions all contribute to our success.  This means we are going to have to go beyond Newton’s observations and enter the Zany world of quantum physiques.  Bear with me this promises to be a fun ride!

Momentum Vs. Magic

In the last 80 years modern science has moved way beyond the Newtonian physical laws and into Magical Realm of Quantum Physics which governs even thoughts as they too are forces which were not considered by Newton.  Your thoughts create unseen but very real forces that shape every aspect of your life and your body.

These positive or negative thoughts lead to behaviors and beliefs, which in turn lead to actions and behaviors that shape the course of events in your life.  What appears in the Newtonian world to be Action A + B = Result C is in fact is the limited context of the individuals awareness of the total “ABC” possibility matrix which is the realm of quantum physics.

In other words the Magic of vision create the possibility and conditions for which the right conditions can manifest to create the desired outcome.  Momentum is simply an expression of a person with vision, execution a series of actions, to achieve a desired outcome.  Typically when a person executes a series of positive actions the universe responds by presenting the desired result.

Visualizing yourself in awesome shape, with all of the physical components they way you want creates the possibility of that happening.  But taking positive actions such as working out, following a good diet, and elimination negative habits like smoking or eating junk food all set up the conditions for success required to make your Vision a Reality.

Napoleon Hill summed it up best in his legendary book “Think and Grow Rich” with the line “Conceive, Believe, and achieve.”

Okay, you might be wondering what does physics and Napoleon Hill have to do with me making gains in the gym?  Stay with me, we will get there!

How to Leverage Quantum Physics In Your Workouts

Too answer that question we must first determine where you are right now in reference to achieving your goals.  To do so you will need to take and honest and objective look at your life right now and assess how your current vision is lining up with your current actions.  This is not always easy and often requires the help of a trained professional.  This is the value of a great coach.

If we examine your day to day routine we would see that you perform a series of actions from the second you wake up until you go to bed again.  Many of these habits are so ingrained they have become unconscious programs running in your brain that you are not even aware of.

Things like breathing, your heart pumping blood, blinking, and so on...  are an obvious in body actions that you are unconscious of there are many others.  NOTE - Although some Eastern meditation masters can control autonomic body functions we are not going to deal with them in the context of this article.

Some unconscious activities that you perform might be eating, driving to work, talking with friends, watching TV, listening to the radio basically the list goes on an on.   Some of these activities contribute to your goals but many of these activities are actually counterproductive to your goals.

The Power Of Observation

Observation is the first rule of science and just by observing your activities you have already changed your potential outcome.  Your thoughts are so powerful that observing your activities and their outcomes can instantly change your potential future simply by becoming aware of the activity and its result.  Others will require a bit more effort to change but rest assured any habit can be turned from a negative to a positive.

How do you replace old negative habits with new ones to produce the results you desire?

If you want to find out how your thought/action patterns affect your life write down everything you do for a whole day and set aside a specific time to examine your daily thought/activity list.

Review the list at the end of the day to determine where you spent your time. This basic exercise in self examination will quickly reveal the content of your thought and behaviors as well as their connection to the success or lack of success you are currently experiencing.

You may want to record this thought/action list and include the feelings you have around your performance of these activities.  I suggest recording this for a minimum of 3 days to one week before you analyze the information.  Sometimes habits and patterns occur on a weekly basis as opposed to a daily basis.

Thoughts + Feelings + Actions + Results = Possibility

Thoughts lead to feelings,
Feelings lead to actions,
Actions lead to results.

But all of these are part of the possibility matrix created by your vision.

Basically the possibility matrix equals the summation of your daily activities, attitudes, feelings, and thoughts of your entire existence right up to this point in time.  Virtually everything you have ever thought, felt, done and your interpretation of the results have all contributed to where you are today.

Some of these activities you have been performing for a long time and some for a short time.  The longer you have been performing a habit the more energy it has or the deeper that pattern is ingrained into your consciousness.

Keep in mind that all of these actions have a momentum of their own which goes back to Newton’s first law of force in a body in motion tends to stay in motion.  In other words the more you think, feel or do something the more likely you are to repeat those actions.

That’s why the saying “ Nothing Breeds Success Like Success” resonates with athletes, businesses, and politics.

Habits, The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

Activities you perform routinely are called habits.  The fact of the matter is almost all of your activity is based on habits and so the question arises.  Do your habits result in generating positive momentum in relation to your goals, or do your habits act as opposing negative forces that are slowing your "body" down?

Here is a simple formula that illustrates the positive result producing habits subtracting negative result producing habits the summation of these two forces results in the momentum you experience in obtaining the desired goal.

Momentum = (positive result producing actions - negative result producing actions) X time

(Of course time is a key factor here because the longer you have performed an action, as well as the frequency of the action, and the intensity of each action determines the total force that action has in either a positive or negative direction).

Again the determination of a positive or negative action is determined whether the action tends to lead to the accomplishment of the goal or not.  This is not always predictable but it’s safe to say that if you have a desire to build a great physique setting fire to your body will probably not help you achieve you goals.  Therefore setting fire to your body in this case would be considered a negative action.  PLEASE DON’T TRY THIS!!!

The First Step In Staying On Track

Although in relative terms it is impossible to examine the exact effect of each force on you goals you can get a rough idea of the forces that are contributing to your success and the forces that are slowing you down.  It's really easy to determine whether you are on track for your goals are not by examining your progress in the last three months.  Did you improve?  Stay the same?  Or did you go backwards?

This simple exercise will tell you the nature of the summation of forces in your life creating positive or negative momentum.  Now if we look back to our examining of our daily activities we can quickly see which ones are producing negative or positive forces.

So once the review is complete you simply replace the momentum killing forces like skipping workouts with positive result producing forces such as performing every workout with intensity and enthusiasm.

You can apply this strategy to every activity such as; eating, sleeping or even watching TV, again the list is endless.  We will show you how to condition yourself in just a minute but before we do that let’s look at what I call “E-MOTIONS”.

Thoughts And Feelings Create E-MOTIONS

Since all habits first start in your mind you need to examine all the thoughts that are running through your brain and become aware of the ones that are negative and quickly replace them with positive thoughts and beliefs.  Many of these “E-MOTIONS” have been created by programming at an early age and may not be apparent to you at first glance.

If you’re experiencing trouble breaking out of negative mental patterns seek out professional help because it’s the fastest way to identify and overcome success-killing patterns of behavior.

This is can be a challenging process and overcoming negative behavior patterns created from negative mental/emotional patterns is ongoing process for everyone, however even a little headway can produce dramatic changes that eventually lead to unstoppable positive momentum.

Remember, “you is where you is... but where you are going is up to you.”

No matter where you are now you can start producing positive momentum today with the following action plan.  By sticking with this you will eventually build unstoppable momentum and quickly and easily achieve whatever you desire.

5 Steps to Conditioning Yourself For Success

First Analyze your actions and thoughts for a whole week, don't edit them just write them down.

Second Ask yourself why am I doing what I am doing to look at the thoughts and feeling behind the actions.

Three At the end of the week pick out all the negative actions/habits and write them on one side of the page and take all the positive actions/habits and write them on the other side of the page.

Four Pick out one negative habit and replace that behavior with a positive habit.  Build a strong reason why you are doing this and commit to eliminating the negative habit by positive habit replacement.  An example of this would be; instead of eating desert after supper resolve to go for a 10 minute walk instead.

Every time you feel the habit of eating desert immediately get up and go for a 10 minute walk, don't think about just do it.

Five At the end of the week examine how successful you were.  Pick new habits to work on or work on the same one if you did not quite reach your objective of eliminating the negative result producing habit.  For best results it's best too first work on little negative habits and then work up to the biggest ones once you have built a track record of success.

Every time you replace a negative habit with a positive habit you are setting in motion more positive forces in your life that will help you reach you goals no matter what they may be.  This whole process is what is called Conditioning.

Success is all about creating the right conditions in order for success to occur and that’s what every single successful athlete, business owner, and high achiever realizes.

Make no mistake, the world is run by visionaries who continually modify their thoughts, feelings, and actions until they produce the desired conditions that lead the desired result.  Understand and apply this principle and you can achieve virtually anything.

Conditioning Is The Process Of Habit Replacement

Although this approach seems simplistic is extremely powerful to overcome negative belief/action/habit patterns with positive belief/action/habit patterns.  By faithfully analyzing your training and recording your biofeedback and diet each day you will be able to quickly identify and eliminate all of your negative belief and actions.  The gradual change of these net forces starts propelling you on towards your goals.

Like a freight train you keep picking up speed and momentum and after a while you have so many positive beliefs and action habits that you seem to achieve almost impossible accomplishments with little effort.  Champion athletes followed this exact process in order to build themselves to world-class athletes capable of remarkable achievements.

You have this same power and can exercise it right now.  Take action today, discover your inner power and build unstoppable freight train momentum to achieve your goals.

Commit to this routine for 120 days and check your results.  I guarantee that you will not just understand intellectually what momentum is but you will have experienced it for yourself.
